Get to know Jeff

Jeff Henriksen is the CEO and founder of Thorpe Abbotts Capital, LLC, a value-oriented investment manager. Since its launch in 2019, Thorpe Abbotts has advised the Thorpe Abbots Value US Fund, a private fund utilizing a behavioral-based systematic investment strategy focused on US equities. Jeff designed and co-developed the algorithm used by the firm, blending both fundamental and quantitative approaches to seek out expectation gaps and mispricing in public markets. In addition to active asset management, Jeff also teaches finance. He is a former Associate Fellow at the University of Oxford. He is a part-time adjunct instructor for Training the Street and an instructor for the Private Markets Program at the University of Chicago.

As CEO of Thorpe Abbotts, Jeff oversees the firm’s portfolio management and research operations. Jeff has shaped his investment philosophy with a focus on behavioral-based asset management. Although his investment style is rooted in the teachings of traditional value-oriented thinkers, Jeff’s philosophy centers on understanding the behavioral factors behind mispricing to unlock the core building blocks of the value and momentum premia. Jeff seeks to adapt traditional value and momentum investing philosophies to 21st-century financial markets using knowledge of these core building blocks.

Jeff earned his MBA from the University of Oxford in 2017, where he received the Dean’s Commendation Award. He also holds a master’s in finance from the University of Colorado, Denver (2012) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado, Boulder (2002), where he graduated magna cum laude in History. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

Jeff has worked directly with Oxford students as an Associate Fellow through mentoring and coaching sessions. He taught valuation and financial modeling in the Oxford Finance Lab in 2017 and 2018 and has advised Oxford teams competing in a variety of global finance competitions, including the 2017, 2018, and 2019 Oxford Chicago Challenges (Oxford victorious in 2018 and 2019), and the 2017 and 2018 Wharton Buyout Competition (Oxford victorious in 2018). Jeff has done guest lectures on valuation, investing, and behavioral finance at both Oxford and the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. As an adjunct instructor for Training the Street, Jeff teaches new investment banking and private fund hires topics, including accounting, three-statement financial modeling, discounted cash flow valuation, trading and transaction comps, merger modeling, short and long-form LBO modeling, and advanced valuation issues.

Jeff lives with his wife, Christina, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
